Exploring Wine and Champagne Growing Regions

8th June 2023

Meet Our Partners

At Classic Fine Foods, we pride ourselves on sourcing the best ingredients for our customers. This guarantee extends to our new Classic Beverage collection, which offers you access to carefully selected own growers' wines and champagnes from across the globe. Learn more about the wine-growing regions and vineyards in Europe and beyond that we source from.

Champagne, France

Located 160 kilometres east of Paris, the Champagne region has a unique, chalky landscape that gives it's grapes a unique character. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are the region's principal grape varieties.

At Classic Fine Foods, we offer two champagne brands for our customers:

Le Brun De Neuville : For nearly 60 years, Le Brun De Neuville has been producing premium champagnes on their family-run vineyards in the Champagne region of France.

The company is formed of 170 wine-growers and their Organic vineyards span across 12 villages, all of which have different terrines that make their champagnes so distinctive. This allows them to create a variety of champagnes from their renowned Chardonnay to their impeccable Pinot Noir, which reflect the environment they are cultivated in.

Christian Lassiagne-Brelot : With nearly 60 years experience, Christian Lassaigne-Berlot is a family-run vineyard based in the heart of the Chardonnay in the Champagne region. Located around 10 kilometres from Troyes, their Montegueux vineyard is 215 hecatres and perches on a hill that reaches 268 metres.

The Montgueux subsoils contain limestone that is 90 million years old, and flint. Naturally porous, the chalk absorbs excess water and rehydrates the vine when the weather is dry. This soil gives the Chardonnay grapes their specific character, iodised and saline.

Bordeaux, France

Bordeaux is a region of such tremendous diversity in geography, soil, weather, and winemaking tradition that it produces a myriad of wines, each with a unique character. The range of Bordeaux wines is reflected in its 57 appellations, 61 grand cru classés, more than 9,000 wine-producing chà¢teaux, and 13,000 wine growers. Bordeaux is the largest fine wine producing region on earth, producing around 6 million hl (158 million US gallons) a year.

Chà¢teaux Alta Gaà¯a : Located on in the communes of Ruch, Bossugan and Saint Pey de Castets, in the region of the Dordogne, Chà¢teau Alta Gaà¯a is a family-run vineyard spanning 30 hectares. With clay-limestone soils, the great terroir of the vineyard allows exceptional ripening of Merlot, Cabernet-Franc, Cabernet-Sauvignon and other grapes, whose subtle blend created wines full of charm and elegance.

Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon is the largest wine region located on the western Mediterranean coast of France and is famous for long hours of sunshine. Each of both regions - Languedoc and Roussillon - has its distinctive characteristics. Languedoc for its high-quality wines and Roussillon for its Vins Doux Naturels. Enjoy a wine tour in one of the sunniest regions of France!

Gilbert & Gaillard : With over 30 years experience, the Gilbert & Gaillard group is dedicated to the promotion and prescription of quality wines, representative of a terroir.

Their education, their experience and countless trips across the globe have given them insight into every aspect of winegrowing and wine, under every latitude. They decided to use this knowledge to good use in a vineyard location perfectly suits for their needs. In 2012, they had to opportunity to create Chà¢teau Gilbert & Gaillard, a wine estate which they have constantly transformed over the years.

At Classic Fine Foods, we offer a selection of Gilbert & Gaillard wines from France and South Africa.

Western Cape, South Africa

Stellenbosch is perhaps the most famous wine-producing region in South Africa. The town, in Western Cape's coastal region, is steeped in history and is home to the country's best-known wine estates. Cabernet Sauvignon is the region's most prized grape variety, often found with Merlot as part of a Bordeaux blend.

Swartland is a large wine-producing area 65 kilometers (40 miles) north of Cape Town in the Western Cape of South Africa. Traditionally a wheat-producing region, it now specializes in making rich, fruit-driven wines particularly from the Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and Pinotage grape varieties.

Sussex, England

Often overlooked as a wine-growing country, England has a lot to offer when it comes to still and sparkling wines.

The dry and sunny West Sussex climate is ideal for wine production, and the wineries here are becoming increasingly well-known for their award-winning vintages. Offering a warm welcome to visitors, many vineyards have fascinating tours and tastings, delicious local food and evening events, some even have lodges where you can stay the night. Learn all about the viticulture and enjoy a world-class sparkling white overlooking row upon row of green vines ripening in the sunlight.

At Classic Fine Foods we love to source our products from local producers and Bluebell Vineyard Estates is a great testament to the quality of British wines.

Bluebell Vineyard Estates : Based in the heart of Sussex, Bluebell Vineyard Estates spans 100 acres, offering wonderful English still and sparkling wines.

Since the first plantings in 2005, Bluebell Vineyard Estates now has 100,000 vines growing premium quality Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier vines along with Seyval Blanc, Bacchus, Ortega, Chasselas and Merlot.
